We had so much fun with our first girl, whose unfortunate name was Cat. The perfect companion, she also earned obedience, rally, and agility titles. She drew comments, “Oh, how beautiful,” from all of our friends. We went back to the same breeder for our second flatcoat, Hissy Fit (appropriately named.). She was the funniest of our flatcoats, often pranking the other dogs, and when they were naughty, she tattled. We bred her, and she produced a litter of four wonderful pups. We kept the fantastic Blackstone’s Someone’s In the Kitchen With Dinah, call name Dinah.
Dinah introduced us to the world of conformation dog shows, got us involved in the Northwest Flatcoated Retriever Club, took us to our first National Specialty, introduced us to field, and to tracking. She was GCHB Blackstone Someone’s in the Kitchen with Dinah CDX RE TD JH WCX with a few agility titles. Through Dinah we made many friends in the flat-coat world and experienced the camaraderie we so enjoy.
When we bred Dinah she squirted out seven pups, of which we kept Flo, the first Rainshadow girl. She was Rainshadow Rollin’ on the River and achieved flat-coat Hall of Fame status, with a Bronze Grand Champion title, Senior Hunter, Obedience CDX, Rally Excellent, Tracking, and Agility titles.
Flo refused to get pregnant, but we were so fortunate that our friend Xan Latta had a puppy for us. Valley, who came from a litter of 15 pups, joined us in 2017 from Montana. Valley is our most-high-drive dog, who yearns for field and obedience work. She’s one of those flatcoats. that needs to work every day. She is also beautiful, with an absolutely lovely head. She earned a Judge’s Award of Merit at the Flatcoated Retriever Society of America 2022 National Specialty. She is GCHB Flyway Farms Down in the Valley CD RE JH WCX
We bred Valley to GCH Wingmaster Splendid Prince Hairy, a stunning boy with a wonderful pedigree. From the litter, we kept our Glory, Rainshadow We Shall Overcome. Owner-handled, she earned her Championship very quickly, followed by her Junior Hunter, WC, and Grand Champion titles. She passed the WCX test at age two, and got her BN obedience title. She’s preparing for more obedience and hunting titles in the near future.
